My best friend Rob lost his father to cancer this morning. Robert Williams will always be remembered for being a genuinely kind and gentle man. He worked as an engineer for the Union Pacific Railroad was proud to be a native Nevadan (he was from Caliente). I will never forget the time that he took our Boy Scout troop for a tour of the big U.P. railroad yard here in Las Vegas. I always enjoyed talking trains with him. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his wife Pat, daughters Mary and Kate, son Rob, and his grandchildren.
This picture is from the last time I saw Robert. It was back in March where he was invited to speak about when he lived in Kelso, California back in the 1950s. Kelso is a near ghost town in the Mojave National Preserve and the Park Service restored a beautiful railroad depot and invited people that lived in the area to share the history at the grand re-opening of the depot.
