With the Broncos giving up five turnovers on Sunday night, it was amazing that the game was close enough to come down to a 50-yard field goal by Seattle with four seconds left in the game. Jay Cutler played OK for his first NFL game. He did throw two interceptions including a ridiculous desperation pass in the first half that was intercepted for a touchdown. Cutler also fumbled a snap (which he recovered) and nearly recovered a Tatum Bell fumble as well. Normally sure-handed Rod Smith also fumbled once.
One of the wackier moments of the game (besides starting a rookie when you have a really good veteran quarterback), was at the end of the first half. Denver lined up for a 43-yard field goal. Jake Plummer (remember him?) the holder took the long snap and flipped the snap up over his head to a sprinting Jason Elam who rumbled for a whole two yards and a first down. Then Denver kicked a 41-yard field goal and Elam limped around for the rest of the game. What a wacky time. It is also wacky losing three in a row at home in Denver. They still have a pretty good shot at a playoff berth since Kansas City lost to Cleveland this weekend. A write up of the game that does not use the word “wacky” can be found here.
