The Weather Service reported that there wasn’t a tornado in Sandy Valley on Friday. However, that line of thunderstorms finally pushed east and into the Las Vegas Valley during the evening. We had a pretty good lightning show and brief periods of heavy rain. The rain was brief because the storms were ripping through the area from south to north at 40-55 knots. So we’d get a storm, it would clear for an hour or two, and then another storm would come through. I recorded 0.20 inches of rain on Friday which brings the monthly total to 0.26 and the yearly total to 1.73 inches.
It was a record amount of rain for that date officially:
Statement as of 01:25 am PDT on September 22, 2007
… Record daily maximum rainfall set at Las Vegas…
a record rainfall of 0.34 inch(es) was set at McCarran International Airport yesterday. This breaks the old record of 0.08 set in 1990.
