The first computer I wanted was an Apple IIc. My cousin had an Apple ][e and I often played with my neighbor's Apple ][. When the Apple IIc was announced in 1984, I really wanted one. I had a paperback copy of Going Places with the New Apple IIc which I read cover to cover (several times). I was sure I was going to get one for Christmas but when my Dad gently told me that wasn’t possible, I was heartbroken. Eventually, my dad bought an used Macintosh (the original 128k model) which was an extremely cool computer.

However, some guy bought a never-opened Apple IIc and monochrome monitor on Ebay. Then he had the guts to open it up, hook it up, boot it up from a 5.25 inch floppy, fire up Appleworks, write a letter to Steve Jobs, and send in a (copy) of the registration card! Unboxing photographs are here. It is uncanny on how little Apple’s packaging has changed.
