Syzdekistan

I’ll finally be returning to work after being sick for a few days. I’ve had a very bad cough since Sunday and today I’m finally feeling to good enough to eat and be a little bit active around the house (mainly running outside to look at the rain gauge and look at the eclipse). I’ve spent most of Monday through today on the couch clearing off the DVR (the writers strike made that easy) and sleeping. I also managed to watch two Netflix movies (one of which was on the day it was delivered (a new indoor record for me)). Today, I didn’t even leave the house and I’ve been working my way through the TV series Firefly. I’m really enjoying it. It’s got some great characters and is quirky blend of sci-fi and Western styles. I completely understand why people were furious when it was cancelled.

The worst thing about being sick was fixin’ the dang roof. That’s right, I spent a few hours on Monday up on the roof repairing the damage from the windstorm last week. I got most of the damage fixed on Monday but needed to quit early to let Hot Wife go out for the afternoon. By then, I knew I was going to be sick enough to have to take Tuesday off so I just left the shingles and supplies on the roof for Tuesday. I was feeling spectacularly bad on Tuesday but still took The Princess to a dentist appointment (yes, The Princess had a cavity and needed a filling. She was very brave). Then I took The Princess to daycare, and returned home. I was feeling so bad I could barely get the ladder out but I managed to climb up on the roof, replace the rest of the blown away shingles, clean up my mess, and then spend the rest of the day sleeping on the couch. It was an awful way to spend a sick day but it needed be done because there was a 40% chance of rain forecast for today.

I’m still feeling pretty lousy but its much better that I was before. The rest of Syzdekistan suffered from this illness a few weeks ago so I guess it was finally my turn. I shouldn’t have been so smug….
