Update on Spencer’s Chondrosarcoma

March 30th, 2008 · 2 Comments

I talked to the vet yesterday and he said Spencer’s laboratory tests taken on Friday all came back very good. So he has no known underlying condition that would make him unsuitable for surgery. His weight loss is probably due to cachexia of cancer, which is the effects of the tumor on his metabolism. Our vet says that there are no guarantees but the oncologist says that Spencer’s prognosis is good after a partial partial removal of the scapula. This website states that up to 80% of the scapula can be removed without compromising use of the limb. They also have good information on limb amputation if it comes to that.

In the meantime, Spencer is enjoying tuna and lots of pampering.

Aaagghhh! I suck so much! I still have Spencer’s carrier. I will return it tomorrow so you have it for his next vet trip. Mack appreciated having the container for travel to and from his surgery.

The W’s have all of their fingers and paws crossed for a speedy recovery for the orange fluff ball. :)
