From the National Weather Service (emphasis added):
… Early season snow for parts of the Mojave Desert and southern
Great Basin…An upper level low accompanied by plenty of cold air and just enough
moisture brought snow showers to parts of the area Friday night
through Sunday morning. As a result many areas saw their first snow
of the season.Along the eastern slopes of the southern Sierra Nevada scattered
snow showers dropped 3 inches of snow at Aspendell at an elevation
of 8500 feet. This is the first measurable snow of the season at
this location. In the Owens Valley… snow flurries fell for a brief
period at Bishop Saturday morning. Although records of measurable
snowfall at Bishop are incomplete… this is the earliest snow that
has ever been observed at Bishop since records started in 1948. The
previous record was October 19th 1949.In southern Nevada… reports from Lincoln County indicate at least a
coating of snow fell around Panaca and Pioche with the first
measurable snow of the season falling in the nearby higher
elevations.Mount Charleston also saw snow whiten The Summit for the first time
this season. Based on reports snow fell as low as the 7500 foot
level. Reports of accumulating snow were received from as low as
around 8000 feet. One inch of snow was estimated at the Rainbow
Canyon snotel at 7975 feet. At the bristlecone Pine trail snotel an
estimated 1.3 inches of snow fell at 8979 feet. Based on records
from the official climate station on Mount Charleston at an
elevation of 7600 feet… this is one of the earliest snowfalls on
record for the mountain. The earliest measurable snow at the
official climate station was on September 5th through the 6th of
1994 when one inch was reported. There was also an unofficial report of snow flurries sighted
Saturday in the western foothills of the Las Vegas Valley in
Summerlin near the 215 beltway and Charleston Blvd. For additional reports on specific temperature records set… please
