Hello,
My name is Boyd Honor from Queensland, Australia.
I am emailing to inquire whether you might be able to assist me locate any living family of a US WWII serviceman named Robert L Earhart originally from Marshall County, Iowa in the US who tragically lost his life during 1943 in Queensland, Australia in a US military aircraft crash.
Mr Earhart died in the forced landing of a US Martin Marauder B-26B bomber at Maroondan, Queensland on 5 November 1943. My father Brae Honor who is now 84 years old witnessed the crash and with other residents of the Maroondan district at the time rushed from the sugar cane fields where they had been at work to assist the injured US servicemen.
Since an old family friend gave me a salvaged part of the B-26B’s wing as a souvenir when I was a young lad over 30 years ago and my father has recounted to me many times his recollections of the young Americans involved in the crash, I have wondered whether we might be able to make contact with the family of the deceased young man Robert Earhart.
My father remembers the police who attended the B-26B crash respectfully opening the young man’s wallet and it contained a photograph of his bereaved family in the US.
I have noted from this website that a Mr and Mrs Bob Earhart have recently celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary (my congratulations to them!).
If Mr Earhart happens to be related to the late US WWII serviceman Robert L Earhart, originally from Marshall County Iowa (Serial Number 37192551), I would be grateful if he would contact me on the above email address please.
My family wish to convey our respect and appreciation to the family of the young man Robert Earhart who lost his life near our family farm 67 years ago in the defence of Australia.
Thank you for your time.
Sincerely,
Boyd Honor
